Common name - Hercules Rhinoceros Beetle
Scientific name - Dynastes hercules septentrionalis

The listing is for 1x beetle larva, of a gigantic rhinoceros beetles species. The nominate subspecies is famous for holding the title as the largest beetle in the world, where the current world record specimen has been measured at just over 18cm.

These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Costa Rica, North America.

This is a different, rarely-kept subspecies of the normally available Hercules Beetle. The regular Hercules Beetle subspecies is Dynastes hercules hercules from Guadeloupe Island, whereas this subspecies is Dynastes hercules septentrionalis from Costa Rica. This subspecies has a distinctive horn morphology where the spines on the thoracic horn are found much further back, and the cephalic horn has a hook shape on the end.

Other subspecies of Hercules Beetles are also available:

2. Link to D. hercules lichyi
3. Link to D. hercules occidentalis
4. Link to D. hercules reidi
5. Link to D. hercules septentrionalis

The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood and leaf litter.
