Common name - Gunmetal Stag Beetle
Scientific name - Streptocerus speciosus
The listing is for 1x beetle larva, of a RARE species of Stag Beetle that is being offered for sale for the first time ever in the UK. This is a highly sought after species of stag beetle that is the American relative of the infamous Rainbow Stag Beetle. This species is well known for their metallic, indigo blue colouration as adults.
This is a rare species from Chile that belongs to the distinct subfamily of stag beetles of Lampriminae, and is the only New World representative. Lampriminae also contains two other Old World genera that are better known by hobbyists: Phalacrognathus (rainbow stags) and Lamprima (jewel stags).
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Valdivia in Chile.
Like many members of the rhino/stag beetle families, the males of this species possess large horns/mandibles used in wrestling matches with rival males, while females lack these structures. The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood.
