Common name - Grand Velvet Rhino Beetle
Scientific name - Spodistes grandis
The listing is for 1x beetle larva, of a very rare species of rhino beetle which are being offered for sale in the UK for the first time. Imported adult pairs from Japan have been sold in Europe before for £600 per pair.
The characteristic features of this species is its body that is covered in short, velvet-like hairs which gives it a golden look under bright light. The larvae of this species are also very unusual in that they are covered in spiky tubercules all over.
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Ecuador, South America.
The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood and leaf litter.
