*Important notice:*
A new, visually similar species was imported in 2026 and has been misidentified and sold by retailers under the same name of Salpidobolus sp. "Avatar". Care should be taken not to mix up these two different species to prevent hybridisation in the hobby and millipedes being mis-sold as one another.

Key distinguishing features between Avatar (original) and the new, 2026 "false Avatar” are as follows:

  1. Preanal ring & anal valves colouration:
Yellow in "Avatar (original)" vs. red in the 2026 "false Avatar".
  2. Yellow dorsal markings:
Starts from the collum (segment 1) in "Avatar (original)" vs. starts from approximately segment 5 onwards in the 2026 "false Avatar".
  3. Lateral silver/grey highlights:
Present to varying degrees in "Avatar (original)" vs. completely absent in the 2026 "false Avatar".

Common name - Avatar Millipede
Scientific name - Salpidobolus sp. "Avatar (original)"

The listing is for captive bred bulk quantities, of a RARE, gorgeous species of millipede that is characterised by its striking, wasp-like markings of yellow and black, and its yellow/pink legs. Additionally, a small percentage of individuals can exhibit silvery highlights that run along the side of their bodies.

Currently, there are two extra morphs of Salpidobolus sp. "Avatar (original)" being circulated in the hobby: 1. "Hyper Avatar", 2. "Line Avatar". Both forms are derived the same species - original Avatar - but have been selectively bred for different morphological traits by hobbyists.

As of 2026, there is a new, different species also being misidentified and sold as Avatars, but this new species is unrelated to the original Avatar, and should be kept seperately in culture to prevent hybridisation in the hobby and millipedes being missold as one another.

These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Sulawesi, Indonesia.

The juveniles and adults feed mainly on decaying wood and leaf mulch (decayed leaf litter). Additional supplements such as calcium (limestone/cuttlefish bone), fruits & veg, moss, and protein such as fish food should be offered as part of their balanced diet.
