Common name - Emerald Cockroach "Gold, Vietnam"
Scientific name - Pseudoglomeris magnifica "Gold, Vietnam"
The listing is for 1x animal, of a rare species of cockroach that is highly sought-after for their intense, metallic green colouring. Females of this species have evolved to be neotenous, meaning that they retain their juvenile appearance into adulthood. Males however gain wings upon reaching adult, and can glide for short distances when spooked.
This is a new locale of P. magnifica introduced to the UK hobby by us (F1 generation raised in 2023 and F2 generation now in spring 2024) called "Gold, Vietnam", which originates from a population found towards Northern Vietnam. Individuals from this distinct Northern population have a vibrant golden colouration and also have gorgeous purple highlights when under bright light. Compared to the "Gold" strain of P. magnifica currently in the hobby that originates from China, this Vietnamese "Gold" strain is much easier to rear and breed as these do not require a cold diapause that the Chinese locale does.
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Vietnam. The nymphs and adults feed mainly on fruits. Additional supplements such as bee pollen and fish food should be offered as part of their balanced diet.
This species prefers arboreal set-ups, so enclosures that are taller-than-wide should be provided with climbing material such as branches, pieces of rotting wood and cork bark. Good ventilation is a must for this species.
