Common name - Rainbow Stag Beetle
Scientific name - Phalacrognathus muelleri "Mirror Glaze, Ruby"
The listing is for 1x beetle larva, of a highly sought after species of Stag Beetle that is famous for its metallic, rainbow colouration as adults.
The “Mirror Glaze” pedigree is a rare, selectively bred bloodline originally developed by Japanese pro-breeders for a mutation that produces an extraordinary mirror-like sheen on the thorax, reminiscent of the glossy finish of the famous mirror-glaze cake. In contrast, normal P. muelleri have a matte thorax, as shown in the second photo for comparison. Furthermore, this "Mirror Glaze" pedigree has further been selected for its fully red body colour.
I am now able to offer a very limited number of surplus offspring from my breeding program. Availability will unfortunately remain infrequent, as this pedigree is still relatively new and carefully managed to ensure the long-term stability of the line and the preservation of the defining traits.
⚠️ Authenticity and genetic integrity: In recent years, there have been reports of UK sellers advertising “Mirror Glaze” stock that are in fact ordinary P. muelleri or mixed lines that have lost the true Japanese Mirror Glaze characteristics through outcrossing. The larvae available here are guaranteed descendants of the original 2022 Japanese import I established in the UK, maintaining the purity of this special pedigree. Each generation has been carefully managed to safeguard the distinctive genetics that produce the mirror-like thorax. Please refer to the comparison photos to see the clear difference between authentic Japanese Mirror Glaze and regular P. muelleri. ⚠️
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Queensland in Australia.
The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood.
