Common name - Ohaus Velvet Rhino Beetle
Scientific name - Lycomedes ohausi
The listing is for 1x beetle larva, of a very rare species of rhino beetle which are being offered for sale in the UK for the first time. Imported adult pairs from Japan have been sold in Europe before for £1200 per pair.
The characteristic features of this species is its body that is covered in short, velvet-like hairs which gives it a golden look under bright light.
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Bellavista, Ecuador.
Like many members of the rhino/stag beetle families, the males of this species possess large horns/mandibles used in wrestling matches with rival males, while females lack these structures. The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood.
