Common name - Mayan Hercules Rhino Beetle
Scientific name - Dynastes maya
The listing is for 1x adult beetle, of a RARE species of Rhinoceros Beetle native to the Honduras. This is a smaller relative of the gigantic Hercules Beetle, and is characterised by an iridescent thorax and wings that are a deep yellow and spotted, resembling a ripe banana.
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from the Honduras, North America.
Like many members of the rhino/stag beetle families, the males of this species possess large horns/mandibles used in wrestling matches with rival males, while females lack these structures. The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood.
