Common name - Hercules Rhinoceros Beetle
Scientific name - Dynastes hercules lichyi

The listing is for bulk quantities of beetle larvae, of a gigantic rhinoceros beetles species. The nominate subspecies is famous for holding the title as the largest beetle in the world, where the current world record specimen has been measured at just over 18cm.

These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Colombia, South America.

This is a different, uncommonly-kept subspecies of the normally available Hercules Beetle. The regular Hercules Beetle subspecies is Dynastes hercules hercules from Guadeloupe Island, whereas this subspecies is Dynastes hercules lichyi from Colombia. Whilst these do not reach the same mind-breaking size, the wings of D. h. lichyi are much deeper orange in colour than the normal D. h. hercules, and has fewer brown spots.

Like many members of the rhino/stag beetle families, the males of this species possess large horns/mandibles used in wrestling matches with rival males, while females lack these structures. The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood.
