Common name - Japanese Stag Beetle
Scientific name - Dorcus hopei binodulosus
The listing is for 1x adult beetle, of a stag beetle species popularly kept as pets in Japan due to their incredibly docile nature, making them suitable for kids to handle.
Adult pairs of certain pedigrees in the past have sold for upwards of £70,000 ($90,000) in auctions which has earned this species the nickname of living “Black Diamonds”.
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Japan.
The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood.
