The listing is for 1x animal, of a large species of isopod (rolypoly/pillbug/woodlice) that is well known for their ability to create hissing sounds when disturbed as a defence mechanism, which is made by rubbing their legs against the insides of their exoskeleton.
This is a special line called "Israel", which is a distinct population from the regular Greek cultures found in the hobby. Individuals from this Asian population have silvery, mottled bodies, and grow larger than the European population.
This species has a unique appearance compared to other species, with elongated faces that give them a funny look, and their ability to form near-perfect spheres when they conglobate (roll up into a ball). This species is also known for being one of the longest living terrestrial isopod species in the world, with the record being 9 years.
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Israel, Asia. When a group is purchased, the isopods sent will be an assorted mixture of ages and sizes, to ensure a good start to a breeding colony.
The isopods feed on a variety of forest materials such as decaying wood and leaf litter. Additional supplements such as calcium (limestone/cuttlefish bone) and fish food should be offered as part of their balanced diet.
