Common name - Giraffe Stag Beetle
Scientific name - Prosopocoilus giraffa keisukei
This is a species of giant stag beetle native to South East Asia that holds the record for being the largest stag beetle species in the world. As the species name suggests, these are named after giraffes due to the ratio of their mandibles being particularly long compared to their body.
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Flores Island in Indonesia.
The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood.
