Common name - Metallic Stick Insect
Scientific name - Achrioptera fallax
These are captive bred in my collection and this species feeds on leaves of bramble, raspberry, oak, eucalyptus, hypericum, etc.
This is a large, stunning species with both the metallic blue males and the pale females possessing a spectacular set of bright red wings which they flash open when they feel threatened. They also rustle the wings together to produce a loud, 'scratching' sound.
